The Datai
The Datai is one of those hotels that you must see and stay at. This idyllic retreat is located on the north coast of Langkawi in possibly one of the most naturally beautiful bays to be found anywhere. The hotel is in the depths of a centuries-old virgin rain forest with a main block of rooms plus free-standing villas in the forest.
Our Opinion
This resort features in one of my favourite travel books: 1000 Places to See Before You Die. I tend to agree as it quite a magical place. The hotel sits within a dense jungle and the Spa is quite incredible with little open air villas set on a small creek.
It is very secluded, peaceful. I loved all room categories but my preference was the Pool Villas (because I love my pool villas!) but all rooms are fine. Datai Bay is one of the most beautiful places anywhere.
Location
The Datai, and its sister property the Andaman, share a beautiful sandy bay, also known as Datai Bay. The Datai is located on the north coast of Langkawi in a completely unspoilt area. It is approximately 40 minutes to the airport.
Accommodation
The Datai has a range of well-appointed & luxurious rooms, villas and suites. Each with sizeable bedrooms, living areas, private verandahs and amazing views of the natural landscape, facilities include satellite TV, DVD Players, air-conditioning, sitting room, and a minibar with complimentary selected non-alcoholic beverages, tea/coffee facilities and bathrooms with bath & show & balcony
Room Types:
Deluxe Rooms – features a combined bedroom and living area with balcony. Additional facilities include two comfortable day beds, a private bar, and a spacious bathroom with dressing area, twin vanities, a bathtub and shower.
Superior Villas – Offering a much larger interior space in both the living area and bathroom, these elegantly designed villas incorporate an over sized day bed, dining table for two, 37″ LCD flat screen TV, DVD player, Bose CD sound system & Lavazza coffee machine. The extremely spacious bathroom includes an 8″ rainfall shower, twin terrazzo vanities and his and her wardrobes.
Pool Villas – Each Pool Villa has its own plunge pool with built in jacuzzi and day bed.
Suites – The Corner and End Suites have individual bedrooms with en suite bath. Separate living and dining areas add a sense of extraordinary spaciousness.
Pool Suites – The Datai’s 4 Pool Suites are located within close proximity to the beach and Beach Club. Each suite comprises a bedroom with living area, a spacious bathroom, dressing area and a private deck. Every two suites are adjoined by sheltered link ways, and share a private swimming pool, a fitted kitchen, as well as common living and dining areas.
The Datai Suite – has two bedrooms, an ample living room with separate dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen. Panoramic ocean views are best enjoyed on the large balcony that fringes the suite.

The Pavilion – serves authentic Thai cuisine in a charming alfresco setting, in the canopy of the rainforest
The Dining Room – open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring western specialties and local Malaysian delights
